Today, maybe I’m the only one celebrating
Maybe I’m the only one who walks In the Glory of God’s miracle
Today, I remember people who lost their lives because terrorist
Today, I remember those who fought so others did not die
Today, I remember the day the people of the United States went silent
I remember them today
But also I remember my doctor’s call
Telling me to rush to the emergency room
More test ordered
Doctors said to live a long life
Major surgery needed
Never left a hospital for 5 days
Surgery on day 3
Emerging on day 5
Experiencing literal football game on day 7
No headers and no feet hitting balls
Wonderful hugs and expressions of love
Leisurely living for 7 weeks
Why ain’t you driving at 4
Staples be gone at 2
Beautified at 1 or rather 8 days
Re-entry, leaving leisure, at 7 on the dot
After cocooning
in the midst of God’s Joy
sitting at His feet daily
watching His majesty
learning
how to inhabit His Joy
how to live within His Joy
how to be within His Joy
how to be His Joy
how to live
as a walking miracle
surrendering what was within
walking in God’s presence
filling me with
His Peace
His JOY
Forever, wherever I am
Celebrating
It’s Raining School
School
School, School, School
I’m not a student
I’m not a teacher
But nonetheless
The beginning of school impacts me greatly
My children are going back to university
I work within the system of school
My slowest times are when school is out
Not vacationing
Not spending time with family
Working, working for the community of
School
Them that leisure their way through sunny, bright summer days
Them that in the dead of winter, find themselves cozy next to fireplaces and under blankets
Them that in the Spring search out mountain tops full of snow to come down on blades
Them
They are the reason I battle the rainy weather of school falling from the sky
Walking onto school classrooms, peeping through classroom after classroom
Taking what I’m learning back
To advocate on their behalf
Ensuring that they receive the quality education deserved so they can reach their potential
That they are able to pursue the life, career, and college of their choosing
They – the little ones, the big ones, them
Them – they are the ones who will steer our future
And while they cannot I am there
The sun shines brighter when they are well educated and can conquer it all this world has for them
Them
At School
Can You Imagine Me?
Would it be possible for you to see all of me? Value all of me. Value me. Who I am. That which God has made me to be. I walk into it every day. I am a woman. I am a Black woman. I am an American. I am . . . I carry the blood within me from my ancestors who are Chickasaw and Choctaw . . . people. I am a mother. I am a writer. I am an artist. I am a wife. I am a daughter. I am 50. I am an employee. I am an activist. I am a child of God. I am a Christian. I am me. Wholly me . . . I want you to recognize me. It is a weary space that I sit between where you refuse to acknowledge me and being me. I want to be me. Wholly me. All of me. I can’t let you stop me. But you do at times. But I must go on . . . Please move me into your sight. Realize who I am. Recognize me. See me. I am the one that God has defined me to be and I live within the me. I am pleased with me. Let me take you on journeys, showcasing you the whole of me. God placed me here as a unique entity for others to experience . . . for me to experience what you are to be. See all of me. Value me. Let me be . . . me . . .
